Education Qualifications- Candidates must have completed or be in the third year or higher of a qualifying degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities from a recognized institute.
- Eligible degrees include BE/B.Tech/B.Pharma/B.Arch/B.Sc (Research)/M.Sc/MA/MCA/ME/M.Tech/Dual Degree/Integrated Course.
- Equivalent certifications recognized by MoE, AICTE, UGC, or UPSC (e.g., BE/B.Tech/B.Arch/B.Planning equivalents) are also valid.
- International candidates with equivalent degrees are eligible but must appear for the exam in India.
- Final-year students can apply provisionally, provided they submit proof of degree completion if selected

Exam Overview and StructureGATE 2026 will be conducted for 30 test papers, including a new sectional paper on Energy Science (XE-I) under Engineering Sciences (XE). Candidates can opt for one or two papers from approved combinations listed on the official website. The exam, totaling 100 marks, includes: - Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with negative marking (1/3 for 1-mark questions, 2/3 for 2-mark questions).

Selection Process- Step 1: Appear for the GATE 2026 exam on 07/02/2026, 08/02/2026, 14/02/2026, and 15/02/2026 (computer-based test, two shifts daily: 9:30 AM–12:30 PM and 2:30 PM–5:30 PM).
- Step 2: GATE results announced on 19/03/2026.
- Step 3: Apply to individual institutes (IITs, IISc, NITs, etc.) through their admission portals or Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) for M.Tech admissions.
